Sadly, there is one fewer junebug in Burbank, California this morning, as one was killed this weekend in a bizarre puppy playfest. Witnesses allege that Quincy, aged three months, was seen swatting at the junebug as it fluttered near his food bowl. Sadie, also aged three months, apparently chomped down on the bug as it struggled to escape. The junebug was declared dead at the scene. The deceased was retrieved with a tissue and disposed of immediately.

One of the dogs' owners proclaimed the tragedy to be "really, really gross," while the other dogs' owner dismissed the incident, stating that the dogs are "just puppies" and "don't know any better." Whether or not this defense would be sufficient in a court of law will remain undetermined, as the suspects were released on their own recognizance and charges have not been filed.

Apparently unremorseful, the perpetrators were seen romping in the yard and tearing up palm fronds soon after the incident.
