Crazy Dog Lady? Me?

 Posted by Hello

As all good pet owners do, I sing to my dogs. Sometimes I'll use a well-known song and substitute their names in an appropriate spot. For example, the other day I sang "Oh Quincy, Quincy, how was I supposed to know?" a la Brittney's "Hit Me Baby One More Time." (I said "well-known" songs, not necessarily "current" or "good") I've also been known to sing "Hey Jude" to Sadie, substituting "Sade" for "Jude" of course. "Hey Sade, don't make it bad. Take a sad song, and make it better." I sing this to her when she's moping around the yard waiting for D to get home. (Sadie and D have a special kind of love affair, but that is a tale for another time.)

Other times, I'll make the songs up myself to suit the occasion. I sing to the dogs about feeding time, bedtime and walk time. (They go batshit when they hear the walk time song, and I have to say, it's really funny.)

The songs are for the most part unvarying and involve predictable lyrics along the lines of "Who wants to go for a walk?" or "Who wants to eat?" or "Who's ready for bed?" but the dogs are the best kind of audience - nonjudgemental, eager and extremely demonstrative of their appreciation.

In addition to singing to my dogs, I enjoy giving my dogs nicknames. Quincy is "Crazy Anti-Social Rat Dog" and Sadie is "Good Monster" or "Stinky Mongrel." These might not sound like the most affectionate of terms, but trust me, they are.

I think I may be in need of a bit more human contact in my life.
