You know what I'm thinking of right now? I'm thinking of my grandmother and how she used to pick the gardenias from the bush in our front yard. She'd find one perfect bloom and she'd cut it off and bring it into the house. She'd fill a drinking glass with water and drop it in. She thought that was beautiful.

When she died her room was full of trinkets from who-knows-where and who-knows-who. Tiny colored alumninum butterfly barrettes. Ribbons. Candles. Old birthday cards to strange people with beautiful pictures on them.

She saw beauty in everything and wanted to hold on to it.

That's what I'm thinking of right now.
