Crafty

So, hey - wanna see the progress on the mosaic table I'm making? OK!

I started it the weekend before we went to Florida, and it's almost done.
Remember, I found this table in an alley near my house when D and I were walking the dogs. It had probably been sitting outside in someone's yard for awhile before it was put out for trash, because it was pretty weather-beaten. When I wiped it down, I discovered that the top is particle board with wood veneer (ugh!), the middle part of the base is solid wood of some sort, and the very bottom part of the base is a metal of some kind that had been spray painted gold. Ew! Here's the official "before" picture:

Here's the table after I spray painted it. I used semi-gloss spray paint specifically for wood and metal. I liked the finish after it dried - not too matte and not too shiny.

Here are the materials I used:

I used regular bathroom tiles from Home Dep0+ and glass marbles from Mich@el's.

I broke up the tiles with a hammer and glued them to the table with tile adhesive. I chose a simple, rough concentric circle design and placed glass marbles randomly throughout.

It took a long time for the glue to dry, so I had to wait until the next day to grout. I used unsanded, pre-mixed white grout. Unfortunately, I ran out of grout before all the tiles were covered. I finally bought more grout yesterday, and I plan to finish this project this Sunday. I'll post a final "after" photo next week sometime.
