I've been having dreams about Jim D. for a few years now.

Who is Jim D.? you ask. I'll tell you: Jim D. and I went to grammar school together, where as a team we created a paper mache volcano that erupted with a scary, red baking soda concoction. We had a few classes together in high school. That was pretty much the extent of our relationship.

But then the dreams started.

Aside from their frequency, these dreams were fairly unremarkable. They involved normal dream-type stuff. In the dream I'd see him somewhere doing something, and when I'd wake up I'd be like, "Why the hell did I have a dream about Jim D.?" My subconscious was also confused, because the dreams eventually changed. Now when I dream about Jim D., I always run up to him and say, "OH my God! Jim D.! You aren't going to believe this, but I keep dreaming about you! Isn't that weird????" And then I wake up and realize it was YET ANOTHER dream about Jim D., and the cycle continues.

I have no idea why I dream about Jim D. At no point did I have a crush on him. At no point were we ever friends. It's just so strange.

What's even stranger, though, is what happened today. See, I was in the lobby of the building where I work, about to get in the elevator. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted two guys talking. One of them looked like Jim D. I wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything. Plus, I'm so shy that even if I had been sure, I probably still wouldn't have said anything.

When I got to my desk, just for the hell of it, I looked up Jim D.'s name in my company's phone directory. Well, guess what. Jim D. totally works in the IT department. No. WAY. What are the odds? This building is huge and contains many companies. But no. Jim D. works for the same company I work for. Hmm.

I emailed him. Just a simple, short email letting him know that I recognized him and asking him what he's been up to these past few years. He hasn't responded yet. He may not remember me, or he may think it's really strange and inappropriate that someone he barely, barely knew 10 years ago chose to email him. We'll see. It's just weird.
