Just a couple of random thoughts, since I have no ideas for an entry proper:

This comparison has been made before, but it feels closer to home lately: making new friends is sort of like dating. D and I have started to hang out with this couple (let's call them Elliot and Jane) lately, and it's weird. We went bowling the other night (I had never been bowling before. Can you believe it? Never. But dude! I got a strike! I was quite proud of myself. Who gets a strike the very first time they go bowling? I do! Whoo. Forgive the long parenthetical.), and on the way home, D and I discussed them as we would a blind date.

"So what do you think? Should we hang out with them again?"
"Eh. They were OK. I didn't feel any kind of instant kinship with them or anything."
"Me either. But it's fun to do couple stuff sometimes, I guess."
"Yeah, we should probably give them another chance."
"They invited us to Disneyland. Should we go?"
"I'm not sure I could stand them for a whole day."
"Me either, but it might be fun."

It was exactly the kind of conversation I'd have with a friend immediately following a first date with someone, minus the pros and cons about attractiveness.

Kidding. We talked about that too.

"He's getting fat."
"He always seemed fat to me, but yeah, I think he's a little fatter."
"He's nice though."
"I never said he wasn't nice."
"She's funny looking."
"Totally."

Heh. Aren't we mean?

I'm totally craving fish and chips, like in a baaaad way. I must have them tonight. This does not exactly fit in with my plan to get into shape and eat healthier. I may have to roll myself down the aisle next year.

Speaking of food, I'm totally into food blogs and the Food Network lately. Man. (Here's where I should link to some of my favorites food blogs, but I'm too lazy. Maybe another time.) Alton Brown is my hero. I *heart* Alton. He knows his shit, let me tell you. I can do without Bobby fucking Flay, though. What an arrogant asshole. And I'm SICK of Emeril. He's good and all, but he's on CONSTANTLY . I've had enough of him. BAM!
